FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 1, 2018
MADISON – Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) Secretary Dan Zimmerman announced today that the WDVA has started accepting applications for grants up to $25,000 from registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that provide financial assistance or other services to Wisconsin veterans and their families. Nonprofits interested in applying for this grant opportunity must submit their completed applications by September 28, 2018.
“Wisconsin’s Veterans have many diverse needs, and WDVA provides the general foundation on which those needs are met and community and nonprofit organizations’ generosity and creativity augment that base support,” Secretary Zimmerman said. “We cannot do what we do without those communities and organizations, and we are happy to assist their critical efforts through this grant program.”
In January, the WDVA presented grants to nonprofits that provide services ranging from art and equine therapy for those suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder to those that serve homeless and at-risk Veterans in southeastern Wisconsin. Other organizations used grants to fund Veteran-related initiatives in their respective communities.
The following criteria will be evaluated as part of the grant application:
- Background and organizational history
- Organizational qualifications and past performances
- Experience working with veterans and their families
- Need for grant funding
- Outreach and screening plan
- Program implementation timeline
- Monitoring and program evaluation
- Program goals and objectives
- Past working relationships with Veterans Service Organizations
- Integration of outreach and employment services
